Locked apps

How does Toll lock apps?

Pick the apps to lock and the rules that lock them: habits you prove with a photo, schedules and time limits. While a rule holds, those apps are locked. Take the habit's photo and they unlock, unless a schedule or a limit still holds them.

When do my apps lock?

A schedule locks them between its times, a time limit once its minutes are used, a session until it ends. Habits lock them after a missed day: take each day's photos by midnight and the next day starts unlocked; miss one, and the next day starts locked until that day's habits are done, or, on a day with none due, until one photo of the habit you missed. A habit never locks anything on the day it was made.

To lock every morning until that day's photo instead: Settings, When apps lock, Every morning.

What are schedules and time limits?

A schedule locks your apps between two times on the days you pick, like a workday or the night. A time limit locks them for the rest of the day once they've been used for its minutes. Neither asks for a photo; both unlock by themselves.

Why can't I remove an app right now?

While your apps are locked, removing apps or making a habit easier waits until midnight, and loosening a schedule or a limit that holds them waits until it ends, so you can't talk your way out in the moment. Adding apps works at once.

What does the block screen say?

Why the app is locked and when it unlocks, and a line from the words you pick in Settings, Block screen: your own reason, short poems, did you know, the Gospels, the Quran, old wisdom, something else to do, the night sky, groaners or classic novels. Open Toll takes you back to take the photo.

What do PIN lock and Strict mode do?

Both are off unless you turn them on. PIN lock asks for its PIN only before something that loosens your rules, never to prove a habit or to open Toll; a forgotten PIN lifts after 24 hours.

Strict mode stops Toll and every app from being deleted, keeps the date and time automatic and keeps sessions locked to the end while your apps are locked.

Day to day

What counts as a photo?

A photo from Toll's camera, checked on your iPhone. The gym takes a check-in and a check-out at least 30 minutes apart, meals one photo per meal, study one photo of your desk with a laptop, book or notes. The other kinds, from a run to a glass of water, and a habit of your own take a photo that shows it done. Photos are never stored.

Can I take a day off?

Two rest days a month, under Rest days. A rest day covers one day: today's counts from the moment you take it, tomorrow's from midnight. Nothing is due that day and the streak keeps.

For a few minutes instead, take a short break: up to two a day, 5 to 15 minutes each, at least an hour apart (not while Strict mode holds your apps).

What is a focus session?

A session locks your apps for a set time, 15 minutes to 3 hours, photo or not. Start one from Sessions. They unlock by themselves at the end; ending early takes a deliberate hold.

Which notifications does Toll send?

Only the ones switched on in Settings, Notifications: the evening reminder on days a habit is still due, a note before a schedule locks your apps and when a limit is reached, the end of a session, and a reminder 2 days before the yearly plan's free week ends.

Setting up

What does Toll need?

An iPhone with iOS 26.1 or later and Screen Time access for Toll, which iOS asks for once: tap Continue, then Face ID or your passcode. It's your own Screen Time, not parental control. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence the photo check uses Apple's on-device model; on other iPhones it uses Apple's on-device image analysis.

An app isn't locked

In Toll, open Settings and tap Lock again. If it says it couldn't, open the Settings app, then Screen Time, then Apps with Screen Time Access, and make sure Toll is on.

What happens if I delete Toll?

Every lock goes with it. With Strict mode on, iOS lets you delete apps only while they're unlocked. With iCloud on, your habits, rules and photo records come back when you install Toll again; you pick the apps to lock again.

Toll Pro

What does Toll Pro include?

All of Toll: every habit, your own included; schedules and time limits; Strict mode, locking every morning and the PIN lock; website protection; focus sessions, rest days, short breaks and the score; and every block screen, the Gospels and the Quran included. Toll needs it after the first four screens; the yearly plan starts with 7 days free.

What does it cost?

Yearly: $29.99 a year, after 7 days free. Monthly: $5.99 a month. Lifetime: $79.99 once, no subscription. These are US prices; the App Store shows yours. One free week per Apple Account, on the yearly plan.

I started on the free plan. Do I keep it?

Yes. If you finished setting up Toll before version 1.2, the free plan stays with your iPhone as it was: one habit of Toll's own kinds, locked apps until its photo, focus sessions, rest days, the score and four sets of words for the block screen. Toll Pro adds the rest whenever you like. Deleting Toll ends it.

What happens when Toll Pro ends?

Your Pro rules pause: their apps unlock, and Strict mode, the PIN and website protection stop. Your habits, rules, photo records and settings are kept and work again the moment Toll Pro is back. Nothing is deleted. On the free plan from before version 1.2, one habit keeps working (the oldest of Toll's own kinds) and the rest wait, paused, until Toll Pro is back.

If your iPhone is offline when Toll Pro ends, your Pro rules can keep working for up to 3 days, until Toll can check.

How do I cancel Toll Pro?

Open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Toll. The free week comes with the yearly plan only; during it, Toll reminds you 2 days before the first charge. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next charge.

How do I restore a purchase?

In Toll, open Settings and tap Restore Purchase, signed in with the Apple Account that bought Toll Pro. There is no Toll account to sign in to.

How do I ask for a refund?

Apple handles payments and refunds. Ask at reportaproblem.apple.com.

No account, no server of its own, photos checked on your iPhone and never stored. The details are in the privacy policy.
